Hi there! I’m a Project Manager and Marketing Consultant by day and an avid upcycler by night! I love the hunt for unique pieces of furniture! I won’t ruin a perfectly good antique, but if there’s a solid piece of furniture in need of love; I’m in!
I started upcycling furniture probably 15 years ago just for myself. Like all of us just starting out, I didn’t have the money to buy new and fancy furniture. Thank God for Craigslist! It allowed me to shop for good, used stuff because I didn’t have the time to go to yard sales! I would pick up pieces, make them into something I wanted in my house and it worked. I’ve loved doing it so much, I decided to start selling it! (Facebook: Upcycled & Repurposed)
In February of 2017, I registered The ReMarket on my DBA (Doing Business As 😉 ) and started selling! The ReMarket is a someday dream of a shared workspace (MakerSpace!) for hobbyists like us, but for now; it’s a free to use, local, Buy and Sell page on Facebook! I message new vendors all of the time and invite them to list! That way, when I want to hold a pop up event, I have a pool of local artists an crafters!
In September of 2019, my finished pieces were taking over the inside of my house (arrggh!) I wanted to see my dining room again, so I took another small step and said YES to becoming a vendor at Downtown Julie Brown. It was wonderful to stage a 10 ft x 10 ft booth and to see all of my projects in one spot. The very first day the owner sent me a security camera picture of a bunch of people all crowded into my small space shopping and looking at all of my pieces! I was hooked! Here’s the actual picture:
In October of 2020, I decided to take another small step and rent a workshop to finally take my business completely out of my house (much to the approval of my wonderful husband Shane 😉 ) It’s in a historic, empty building in downtown Watertown and I am in LOVE with seeing all of my tools, paints, stains, finishes, brushes, staging décor and unfinished furniture all in one spot and organized.
Covid has brought challenges for everyone for the last few years. For me, it’s pushed me out of my comfort zone and into new adventures that I could never have dreamed of! Follow along with me as the latest one unfolds! I wanted an older RV to be able to bring my dogs and drive to visit my family all over the US. I also needed a box truck to make those trips even more worthwhile and go PICKING! What does that look like in one vehicle? A SHUTTLEBUS!
I’m so incredibly excited for the next phase of my wonderful business. To be able to haul and transport while also economically staying overnight places, I cannot wait! Meet the “Jolly Roger”. My pirate ship for picking up all of the wonderful treasures I find along the way! He’s getting fixed up now to be road ready, I’ll update progress as I make it home too!
As I grow (one baby step at a time), I thought it would also be wonderful to catalog my journey, my pieces and to share what I learn so that anyone reading this might learn too.
I hope you’re inspired, full of wonder and ready to try something new! Wish me luck!
